The Original
Plain Modern English
Thunder and lightning. Enter three Witches.
First Witch
When shall we three meet again
In thunder, lightning, or in rain?
First Witch
When are we three getting together again —
in thunder, lightning, or rain?
Second Witch
When the hurlyburly's done,
When the battle's lost and won.
Second Witch
When the chaos is over —
when the battle's been lost by one side and won by the other.
Third Witch
That will be ere the set of sun.
Third Witch
That'll be before sunset.
First Witch
Where the place?
First Witch
Where?
Second Witch
Upon the heath.
Second Witch
Out on the moor.
Third Witch
There to meet with Macbeth.
Third Witch
That's where we'll meet Macbeth.
First Witch
I come, Graymalkin!
First Witch
Coming, Graymalkin! (That's her demon cat.)
Second Witch
Paddock calls.
Second Witch
Paddock's calling. (Her demon toad. Every witch needs a pet.)
Third Witch
Anon.
Third Witch
Be right there.
All
Fair is foul, and foul is fair:
Hover through the fog and filthy air.
All
Good is bad, and bad is good.
Let's float off through the fog and dirty air.
Exeunt.
